Did you ever feel as though, caring for your coily hair is hard work? Between shampooing, deep conditioning, and styling it can be time consuming. And, lets not even talk about growing it out! THAT is a daunting task altogether! Minimizing hair breakage can be as difficult as trying to balance a seesaw. Especially, when your hair strands are thin.

T-I-M-E , is what we need to do our hair. Since, many of us don't have it. We resort to methods which seem to be quick and easy. Only to acquire bad habits along the way. The end result is hair damage.
For, example I had to take a look at the hair brush I was using. It did the job and cut my styling time in half. However, seeing my hair strands trapped with in the bristles made me think... This must be the reason why it is taking so long for my hair to grow.
To prove a point to myself. I abstained from brushing and combing. I finger detangled my hair more. Protective styling and I became best friends. Then my hair started to grow.
All this time I was under the impression that my hair only grew 1/4 inch a month. After, I STOPPED practicing bad habits. My hair grew 1 inch within a month. Something, we naturals are told is biologically impossible to do.
For, once in my natural journey I felt accomplished. My trudge up that steep hill, lead me some where near the top. I was like YES!! THIS IS IT!!! But, as quick as the seesaw went up. It came back down again. And, I found myself facing another dilemma. My hair was tangling even more. I knew not properly detangling hair before styling could be the culprit. Yes, y'all! I had to go back to using the brush yet again. So, I decided to change my brush.

Throughout my hair journey, I was
using this brush over here------------>
I bought the concept of it detangling with less breakage. But, what I failed to realize was my thin hair strands were not strong enough to withstand the tugging and pulling. And, it was doing the exact opposite.

Instead I opted to try this brush.
-------------------------------------->
I compared the two and found them both to have pros and cons.
When you take some of the rows of the bristles out of the Denman brush. It is said to take out less hair. But, the tugging was too much on my scalp. It can be painful for those who are "tender headed."
The Felicia Leatherwood brush or the brush that is similar to it. Is gentle on the scalp. It detangles better BUT I found my hair in the bristles.
Just picture me contemplating which brush to use. Should I use the Denman brush and be in pain? Only to wind up with not so detangled hair and I still have to finger detangle? Or, maybe I should use this new Felicia Leatherwood type brush. It actually detangles but, it pulled out hair. Keep in mind it is said to remove little too no hair. In that aspect it did NOT come through on its claim.
I now understand, everyone's hair strands are not the same. Whereas, some of us have hair strands that can endure the tugging of styling tools. Some of us do not. Using a hair brush is helpful. But, we must find a balance. How often is it appropriate for us to brush our hair? Is a question we need to answer personally . You are the only one who has the answer to this question.
For some us once a week is good. For some, it may be more. When, we discover what is appropriate for our hair. We can avoid brushing away our length. And, begin our journey toward hair growth.
